On the island of Sardinia, we find the magnificent Santadi winery. Founded by a group of winegrowers in 1960, they came up with the idea to join forces and pool their experience. This proved a resounding success, initially as a bulk wine, and later, after the arrival of Antonello Pilloni (who remains its chairman to this day), the finest premium wines. The winery is located on the southwest coast of Sardinia, in the heart of the Sulcis district. Santadi also attracted internationally renowned oenologist Giacomo Tachis, who played a significant role in the winery's development. After all, these are truly some of Sardinia's finest wines.

The old Vermentino vineyard of Santadi

Today, the winery has grown to approximately 600 hectares of vineyards. Santadi has also invested heavily in a modern winery in recent years, and the vines receive the utmost attention. The finest Vermentino grapes are also grown for this Villa Solais. The vineyard is mature, producing full, ripe bunches. Besides the Vermentino grapes, a small amount of Naragus grapes is also added to the wine to give it more depth. The grapes thrive in the perfect environment, with plenty of sunshine and ample cooling from the sea breeze. This allows the grapes to ripen evenly, resulting in a fresh harvest.

What does Santadi Villa Solais Vermentino taste like?

It's a joy to drink, and that begins the moment we open the bottle. We smell hints of fresh white fruit like apple and pear, complemented by green herbs. In the glass, it gleams beautifully bright yellow with a hint of green. Nosing it, we encounter a fresh palate of apple, pear, and lime. A lovely, light swirl of mint leaves and green bell pepper completes the whole experience. On the palate, it's wonderfully fresh and has plenty of ripe apple and gooseberry notes. A mineral note lingers on the finish, making it very uplifting.
