This red wine, called Moonlighters Red, from the RedHeads winery, is a Bordeaux blend made from the typical Bordeaux grapes Malbec and Petit Verdot. This wine originated from the beloved dog that always roamed within the backyard boundaries in the evenings. The dog was very popular with the winemakers, which is why they named this red wine Moonlighters.
The dream of RedHeads Studio
RedHeads Winery was founded by a group of young winemakers who own their own estates in McLaren Vale, Australia. Together, they sought out the country's finest parcels to craft high-quality wines. The winery is located in the town of Tanuda in the Barosso Valley, a wine region in southern Australia. It all began here in an old barn, a former restaurant named RedHeads. This is where several young winemakers pursued their shared mission: to break away from the large wine corporations and make beautiful, creative wines themselves, with a focus on quality. To realize this dream, they partnered with winemakers in the surrounding area, including Adelaide, the Barosso Valley, and McLaren Vale. They sourced the best grapes, which would normally be sold to the "big names." Using these grapes, RedHeads Studio set out to create a wine with personality and character. Thanks to these partnerships, they have access to a wide variety of grape varieties, allowing them to produce both exquisite white and red wines.
The scent and taste of RedHeads Moonlighters
The wine is lightly aged in oak barrels, which gives it a bit more depth! The aroma reveals a touch of red fruit, but the black fruit is prominent, complemented by a touch of spice and cedar. The palate is full and silky smooth, with a lovely interplay of spice and black fruit, along with hints of pepper, gingerbread, and jam.
