Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Château de Blagny 2020 Côte de Beaune, Burgundy
Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Château de Blagny 2020 is a prestigious white Burgundy made from Chardonnay from a high-altitude Premier Cru vineyard above Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. This cuvée is a monopole of Maison Louis Latour, giving the house full control over the entire vineyard. The wine combines the rich, round style of Meursault with the fresh tension of Blagny, supported by fermentation and aging in French oak barrels from Louis Latour's own cooperage.
Vineyards and Region
Château de Blagny is situated high on the slopes above Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune.
• Location / Origin: The vineyards are located south of Volnay and Pommard, in Meursault, the largest southern white wine commune of the Côte d’Or. Due to its high altitude above Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, the wine gains extra freshness and tension.
• Monopole: What is a monopole? A monopole is a vineyard entirely owned or managed by one domain, allowing Louis Latour to create a very unique expression of Meursault Premier Cru here.
• Soil: The vines grow on stony marl and Jurassic limestone. These soils give Chardonnay structure, minerality, and a fresh, straight backbone.
• Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 30 years old, and the yield is around 40 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for careful selection of the fruit.
Grape Composition
This white Premier Cru from Meursault is made entirely from Chardonnay.
• Chardonnay – Meursault Premier Cru: Chardonnay forms the complete basis of this wine, giving it its rich texture, floral aromas, almond notes, and mineral length. In Meursault, Chardonnay often gains more roundness and depth, while Blagny adds freshness, tension, and a more chalky precision.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification follows the classic Burgundian approach for great white wines from Maison Louis Latour.
• Fermentation: The wine is traditionally fermented in oak barrels and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. This conversion softens the acidity and gives the wine more roundness, without losing the fresh tension of Blagny.
• Aging / Oak Maturation: The wine ages for 8–10 months in oak barrels, 35% of which are new wood. Louis Latour uses French oak barrels from its own cooperage with medium toast, which provides subtle brioche, toasted almond, and extra texture.
• Aging Potential: This Meursault Premier Cru has an aging potential of 6–8 years. The combination of fresh acidity, oak aging, and mineral structure gives the wine a sufficient foundation for further development.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
In the glass, Château de Blagny 2020 has a pale yellow color, with aromas of acacia blossom, brioche, and toasted almond. The taste is rich and round, yet remains firm due to the fresh tension and mineral undertones. The finish is long, refined, and lively.
• Serving Temperature: Serve this Meursault Premier Cru at 12–14 °C, so that the creamy texture, floral aromas, and mineral freshness come together beautifully.
• Dishes: Excellent with lobster, salmon with sorrel sauce, sautéed chanterelles, creamy fish dishes, poultry with cream sauce, and refined cheeses.

More information about Maison Louis Latour
Maison Louis Latour was founded in 1797 and is one of Burgundy's historic family-owned houses. Château de Blagny holds a special position within the house, as this Premier Cru is fully managed as a monopole by Louis Latour and is only made in white. The in-house cooperage plays an important role here, as the French oak barrels are tailored to the wine's style: rich and textural, but always with Burgundian freshness and precision.
