Louis Latour Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Blanc 2024 Côte de Beaune, Burgundy
Louis Latour Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Blanc 2024 is a white Burgundy made from Chardonnay grapes from Saint-Aubin, just west of Chassagne-Montrachet. This premier cru combines the refinement of the Côte de Beaune with a remarkably fresh, light, and elegant style. Fermentation and aging in French oak barrels give the wine extra roundness and subtle vanilla notes, while citrus and minerality keep the wine crisp and vibrant.
Vineyards and region
Saint-Aubin is located in the Côte de Beaune and is an appellation that is increasingly appreciated for white Burgundy with finesse and good tension.
• Location / Origin: Saint-Aubin is located not far west of Chassagne-Montrachet. The appellation was long overshadowed by its famous neighbors but produces white wines of great quality, freshness, and Burgundian precision.
• Appellation: What does Premier Cru mean? In Burgundy, Premier Cru refers to officially recognized vineyards of higher quality within the appellation. This Saint-Aubin 1er Cru therefore comes from a selected quality level within the village.
• Soil: The vines grow on limestone. This soil helps Chardonnay achieve freshness, tension, and a refined mineral undertone.
• Vineyard & Harvest: The vines are on average 30 years old, and the yield is around 45 hl per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for careful selection of the Chardonnay fruit.
Grape composition
This white premier cru is made entirely from Chardonnay.
• Chardonnay – Saint-Aubin Premier Cru: Chardonnay gives this wine its citrus notes, round structure, subtle vanilla, and fresh length. In Saint-Aubin, the grape develops a slightly cooler and crisper profile than in some richer villages of the Côte de Beaune, with great tension and elegance.
Vinification and aging
The vinification follows Maison Louis Latour's classic Burgundian approach for white premier cru wines.
• Fermentation: The wine undergoes traditional fermentation in oak barrels and completes full malolactic conversion. This gives the Chardonnay more roundness and softness, while the calcareous origin continues to provide freshness.
• Aging / Oak Maturation: The wine ages for 8–10 months in oak barrels, 10% of which are new wood. Louis Latour uses French oak barrels from its own cooperage with medium toast, which provides subtle vanilla, extra texture, and a refined hint of oak.
• Aging Potential: This Saint-Aubin 1er Cru has an aging potential of 5 years. This aligns well with the combination of fresh citrus, oak aging, and mineral tension.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
In the glass, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Blanc 2024 has a clear pale yellow color. The aroma is intense, with citrus and vanilla. The taste is fresh and light-footed, with citrus again and a beautiful length in the finish.
• Serving Temperature: Serve this Saint-Aubin 1er Cru at 11–13 °C, so that the citrus, subtle vanilla, and fresh structure come together beautifully.
• Dishes: Excellent with shellfish, fish dishes, charcuterie, and goat cheese.
Awards
