Calem Lagrima White Port—where do we begin with this gem from Portugal? Port house Cálem Porto was founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem. Since its inception, it has invested considerable time and energy in producing high-quality Port wines at very reasonable prices. This has resulted in high market recognition and several international awards. Calem Porto is the market leader in Portugal. There's no store in Portugal that sells drinks without Calem in its selection. The familiar look of the bottles is also recognizable worldwide. We were therefore quite surprised to see the labels gradually getting a new look. But, once again, these beautiful bottles are perfectly recognizable!

36 months of wood aging for its beautiful character

What makes this Calem so special compared to regular white ports? Lagrima literally means "tears," and yes, this white Calem brings tears of joy to our eyes! The very best vineyards are selected for this white port by Calem's winemakers. The finest and oldest vines, filled with Codega, Malvasia, and Viosinho, give this white port its unique and full character. After manual harvesting, where each bunch is inspected for Lagrima quality, the grapes are transported to the winery in small crates. These small crates reduce the risk of premature bruising. After vinification, the port wine undergoes a beautiful oak aging process. This aging takes place in oak barrels for three years, allowing this Lagrima port to develop its character. The end result is stunning. It's no wonder, then, that this port has already won numerous awards.

Lagrima port in aromas and flavours

Time to sample this Porto Calem gem. Pouring this Calem Lagrima white Port brought beautiful tears to the glass from its thick structure. The color is straw yellow with a lovely thick layer on top. Nosing the glass, we discovered lovely notes of dried fruits like apricot and apple, honey, and a touch of ripe peach at the finish. The palate is full and sweet, with lovely fruity notes of peach and sweet pear. The wonderfully full mouthfeel creates a delightful sensation. The finish is mild and pleasantly sweet and, in our opinion, should last forever. A fantastic glass of port!
