This beautiful South African winery is a new addition to our collection. It takes its name from a well-known book, Great Expectations by English author Charles Dickens. After reading this book, the owner and winemaker was deeply inspired to create fantastic wines. Winemaker Jan du Toit lived up to expectations, presenting us with wines that are progressive and taste as if we're immersed in a story from this magnificent book.

The harvest of the Colombar

In the early years of South African winemaking, the Colombard grape was very prevalent, though it was somewhat marginalized by Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc. But winemaker Jan du Toit wanted to revitalize the grape. He chose a unique, cool vineyard and launched his Expectations. The soils are primarily clay-based, perfect for Colombard grapes. They mature beautifully evenly thanks to the cool sea breeze and warm afternoon sunshine. The grapes are harvested at night and in the early morning, after which Jan uses only the so-called "free run juice" from the cool grapes. This is the finest juice released without pressing after destemming and crushing the grapes.

The smell and taste of the Goedverwacht Crane White Colombar

Crisp and clear and wonderfully fresh is the best way to describe it. In the glass, this Goedverwacht Great Expectations Crane White Colombard is a light yellow with a bright green glow. The aroma is overwhelming, with plenty of passion fruit, citrus peel, and a touch of green herbs. On the palate, the palate is pampered by fresh flavors of white and citrus fruit, accompanied by subtle spices. Later, as this white wine rolls around the palate, nuances of gooseberry and grapefruit are revealed. The long and refreshing finish completes this wine's character.
