Vintage Report

The 2021 vintage in Barossa Valley has received an excellent Robert Parker score of 93 points. The wines from this year are early drinking and very approachable.
Fifth Wave is the most cherished Grenache from the old vines and is dedicated to the fifth generation of the Lindner family. Planted in the middle of the last century, Fifth Wave is a call to arms to protect, preserve, and celebrate the best of the Barossa.

The main wines from South Australia

Langmeil was founded in 1996 by three friends. They completely restored the old winery, which had been located on the estate since 1930. The goal of Langmeil Winery is to produce premium wines of high quality, made from grape varieties that excel in the Barossa region. The Barossa Valley in South Australia is currently the most important wine-producing region, producing more than half of Australia's wines. Once a neglected Old Vine Garden in Lyndoch, The Fifth Wave vineyard was rejuvenated in 1999 by Langmeil. Winemaker Paul Lindner saw the potential of the Grenache grape in this unique vineyard and convinced the vineyard owners to produce it. The first Grenache from this time-honored Old Vine Garden was highly prized.

Nineteen months of wood aging for this Fifth Wave Grenache

All Langmeil Old Vine Gardens are treated like national treasures and are tended by hand, from pruning to harvesting. After harvest, they are carefully pressed immediately. After fermentation, this Grenache is aged for nineteen months in 11 percent new French oak and 89 percent seasoned American oak. This Fifth Wave has a medium ruby red color with pink hues. The nose reveals aromas of dark cherries and raspberries mixed with sweet spices, hints of toasted bread, and nuances of white pepper. The palate reveals ripe red berries and sweet spices. The finish is long with flavors of pepper and spice, a characteristic chalky finish, and youthful, firm tannins.
