Vintage Report
The 2023 vintage in South Africa is considered outstanding, scoring 90 points. The wines from this year are characterized by a youthful and tannic character that still needs time to fully develop.
Robust, bold, and adventurous. That's The Mooring Syrah Grenache in a nutshell. Made from two classic grape varieties, originally from French vineyards. Grenache and Syrah became popular in the vineyards of the Rhone region but now have a widespread diaspora. They also reached South Africa. This is remarkable, as South Africa was certainly the domain of easy-to-grow grape varieties during the last century. Since then, the development of South African viticulture has reached such a level that high-flyers like Syrah and Grenache have more than earned their place.
The wines of The Mooring
The Mooring wines are based on the origins of viticulture in South Africa and the associated trading spirit that has passed through the Cape of Good Hope for centuries. In centuries past, tens of thousands of ships passed through Cape Town – it was the playground of adventurers and pirates. Sometimes with less fortunate outcomes, including shipwreck. Each The Mooring wine represents a shipwreck that fell victim to the collision of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. The label of The Mooring Syrah Grenache depicts the SS Waratah. This was a passenger ship that operated a ferry service between Europe and Australia. In July 1909, during her second voyage, she disappeared off the coast between Durban and Cape Town. The wreck's location remains uncertain to this day. What we do know for sure is that The Mooring Syrah Grenache is an incredibly delicious wine.Buy The Mooring Syrah Grenache wine
The classic grape varieties create a playful yet complex palate. A talented blend that truly showcases the character of South African wines. Expect plenty of black fruit, such as blackberries, currants, and cherries. A subtle hint of olive tapenade is also readily apparent. The spiciness of black pepper completes The Mooring Syrah Grenache.Product details
