Vintage Report

Vajra's Moscato d'Asti comes from the municipality of Mango. Their Riforno vineyard is situated on a hilltop, facing due south. The first Moscato vines were planted in 1986; the youngest are from 2007. Quality is paramount at this family-run winery, and we can certainly taste the difference.

The family business GD Vajra

GD Vajra was founded in 1972 by Aldo Vajra. The initials refer to his grandfather, from whom he inherited the vineyards. He and his wife built the company with the goal of producing wines under their own label. These wines are made exclusively from their own grapes. Over the years, daughter Francesca and sons Giuseppe and Isidoro also joined the company. A remarkable family business that has built a reputation through innovation and collaboration with the University of Turin, placing it among the top Barolo wines. Their Riforno vineyard for Moscato grapes is located in the municipality of Mango. It was planted on a hillside and faces due south. Vajra waits until the Moscato is fully ripe and harvests in the morning so the grapes arrive cool in the cellar. A strict selection process then follows, ensuring only the finest grapes are pressed. A gentle pressing and cold stabilization precede vinification, which takes approximately seven days. This allows them to preserve all the fruitiness in their Moscato, which is stored in special stainless steel vats.

A festive Moscato

It's a lightly sparkling wine with a low alcohol content of 5.5%. The first bottling will take place in November so we can enjoy this new wine during the holidays. The wine has a yellow color and exuberant aromas of peach, apricot, and exotic fruit. Delicate and persistent bubbles emphasize the Moscato's fresh character and culminate in a round, long finish.
