Winemaking in Barolo dates back centuries. One of the oldest wineries and one of the founders of the now-famous Barolo wine is Marchesi di Barolo, a winery active since the late 19th century. However, the founding of the Vajra winery dates back to a more recent era. We go back to 1972, the year Aldo Vaira inherited several vineyards from his grandfather. These precious vineyards are situated right in the heart of the Barolo region.

Vajra Winery was born. The vineyards are located just minutes from the center of Barolo, at a slightly higher elevation than the regular vineyards. Unique to Vajra wines is that all the grapes are sourced from their own vineyards. This gives the family a clear influence on the wines. The Vajra family also collaborates intensively with the University of Turin, which has a significant impact on the winery's innovation.

The Vajra Barolo from Italy

Currently, Aldo Vaira's children are in charge of the winery's daily operations. Daughter Francesca and sons Guiseppe and Isidor create impressive Italian wines with the same passion as their father. Vajra's fame is primarily due to its Barolo wines. Their Vajra Albe Barolo is a true showpiece, with Nebbiolo grapes sourced from three vineyards: Fossati, Coste di Vegrne, and La Volta. Three years of aging in Slovakian oak completes the experience.

Besides their exquisite Barolo wines, Vajra has much more to offer. Typical Piedmont wines are also part of their selection, such as the Vajra Barbera d'Alba or the Vajra Dolcetto d'Alba. These are distinctive Piedmont wines where local varietals like Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo play a prominent role. However, Vajra also boasts unique gems.
