Vintage Report
The 2020 vintage in the Southern Rhône was exceptional, receiving 96 Parker points. The wines are currently still youthful and tannic, indicating excellent long-term aging potential.
Gigondas, well, we should say gigantic, because that's the impression of this red wine from E. Guigal. The family name is worth upholding, and to this day, the Guigal family still produces wine. This includes this fantastic Gigondas, made from vines that are no less than forty years old. The wine is blended from 70 percent Grenache, 20 percent Mourvèdre, and 10 percent Syrah. Guigal's Gigondas is a perfect example of a great southern Rhône wine.
24 months of wood aging for Guigal Gigondas
The Guigal winery was founded in 1946 in the picturesque village of Ampuis. It is a small family business that has grown over the years into a world-renowned winery in the Rhône region. Guigal cultivates its wines with the utmost respect for the environment. The winery produces wine in various regions in the north and south of the region and has been awarded 100 Parker points for several of its wines. The winery has 140 hectares of vineyards. The vines have an average age of 40 years. Harvesting is entirely by hand and subject to rigorous selection, ensuring only the finest bunches make it into the bottle. This is evident in the pure and powerful aromas and flavors. After rigorous selection, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine matures for 24 months in large French oak barrels, half of which are new. What does Guigal Gigondas taste like?
The Grenache delivers ripe fruit and a charming texture. The Syrah adds color and delightfully peppery aromas, while the Mourvedre provides firm tannins and a solid structure. After being hand-harvested, this Gigondas is aged for a full 24 months in wooden Founders, half of which are new and unused. This gives it its full and ripe character, with aromas of black fruit, licorice, pepper, fruit pit, and earthy notes. The palate is full and very creamy with a soft structure and flavors of black fruit, light spices, vanilla, oak, and red cherries.Product details
