Cantine Paradiso has a long winemaking history in Puglia. Just after the war, things weren't easy for grape growers, and there was widespread poverty in the southern part of Italy. Grandfather Angelo took the plunge and founded his own winery in 1954, called Cantine Paradiso. Angelo had a particular spirit, wanting to let the grape varieties shine in his wines. He explained that good wines need little more than just a little extra. Today, Angelo's son and grandchildren are at the helm in Puglia. They still produce the family wines of Cantine Paradiso under the Posta Piana name. And it's going very well, as the winery has already received several awards, including 94 points from Luca Maroni.

Wood bearing for the Posta Piana Salice Salentino

The old vineyard for this Posta Piana Salice Salentino is filled with Malvasia Nera and Negroamaro grapes. The old vines, planted in clay and loam soil, yield a top-notch harvest. This is partly due to Puglia's perfect climate; plenty of sunshine brings warmth and richness to the grapes. Fortunately, the cool wind also contributes significantly to the harvest, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. When the grapes are ripe for this Salice Salentino, they are harvested by hand and transported in small crates to Cantine Paradiso. A second round of selection follows, as only the finest bunches are used for this red wine. After pressing, a large portion of this Posta Piana Salice Salentino is aged in oak barrels in the cellars of Cantine Paradiso. The oak aging lasts at least twelve months, which is quite a long time for a wine from Puglia.

The smell and taste of the Posta Piana Salice Salentino

The result is a beauty, a refined wine crafted with the utmost precision. The joy begins the moment the bottle is opened, as the moment the cap is removed, we smell hints of the Italian sun. Beautiful nuances of black and red fruit complemented by a light spiciness. As the nose approaches the glass, all the aromas are amplified with notes of plums and stewed cherries. The palate is exceptionally smooth, with a beautiful interplay of different fruit notes, accompanied by hints of vanilla, spice, and a touch of toffee.
