The 2022 vintage for white wines from Lower Austria has been excellently rated with 90 to 94 points by Robert Parker. The wines from this year are early-drinking and very approachable.

The Mauritiushof was built 750 years ago and was initially a grape harvesting facility. In 1799, it came into the hands of the Gritsch family, who, with great passion and dedication, and in keeping with tradition, produce superb wines. This Riesling Federspiel, for example, comes from one of Austria's most beautiful wine regions.

Old Riesling vines at 1000 Eimerberg

Today, the seventh generation is at the helm. Tradition and traditional knowledge go hand in hand here. The soil structure, in particular, is unique and is evident in every Gritsch wine. The 1000-Eimerberg vineyard, also considered a Spitz landmark, has a slope of up to 50 percent. Working here requires practically mountaineering skills. It's pure production work. The old Riesling vines of our 1000-Eimerberg produce wines with light fruit and crisp acidity; they are stylish and robust. Hints of citrus and a wonderful minerality are characteristic of Gritsch Rieslings. The riper the vintage, the more exotic aromas such as passion fruit and pineapple are developed. The elegant Riesling grapes are harvested exclusively by hand at peak ripeness, without the aid of heavy harvesting machinery. The grapes are then transported almost immediately to the winery. Here, they are hand-selected and carefully separated. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by several months of aging on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled.

The 1000 Eimerberg Riesling Federspiel has a brilliant, light yellow color in the glass. Aromas of orange, lemongrass, and lime are immediately apparent. This Austrian wine has an elegant, dry palate with notes of pineapple. Its beautiful structure continues into a pleasant finish that leaves you longing for the next sip. A perfect accompaniment to fish.
