From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

What a wine, what a special place, and what a unique lifestyle the winemakers and all their staff live. We're talking, of course, about the Petra winery, located in the Suvereto wine region. Wines were already being made here in the time of the Greeks and Etruscans, who used amphorae to make wine. The landscape where the vines grow is enchanting; the bunches are cultivated with great care. The vineyards are surrounded by beautiful nature reserves and are known for their bountiful harvests. The corks for this bottle also come from near Suvereto, as this is where the finest cork trees grow.

Nestled among the vineyards stands Petra's beautiful building, uniquely curved and slanted. Here, the wines are made and stored in oak barrels, offering views of the vineyards. The vines for this Petra Hebo Toscana are nearly twenty years old and consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese. Under the guidance of Francesca Moretti, the bunches are grown and carefully harvested by hand. After harvest, the entire wine is aged for a full 12 months in Slovenian oak barrels. This is an important period for Petra Hebo Toscana, as it develops its strength and suppleness during this time. After this, the bottles are aged for at least six months. Only when the bottles are in perfect condition are they sold.

A fun fact: the roof of the circular winery slopes slightly to the vineyard. This perfect slope creates a unique climate, which we taste in this red wine. Upon pouring, we see a beautiful deep red color with a subtle purple sheen. It smells of the finest forest fruit, with hints of vanilla, spice, and violet. The flavor is powerful, initially presenting a fusion of black fruit and spice on the palate. The beautiful presence of soft tannins makes everything very exciting. On the cheeks and on the back of the tongue, there are nuances of blackberry, bay leaf, and cocoa. The fresh and fruity finish makes this wine perfectly balanced.
