Vintage Report

The 2020 vintage in South Africa achieved an excellent score of 92 points. Wines from this year are of high quality but may still be a bit youthful and tannic at present.

Reyneke's Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is a fully organic wine. Only natural yeasts are used, giving this red blend a pure character. It's deliciously fruity with warm, spicy notes.

The perfect location for Reyneke wines

Johan Reyneke took over his mother's wine farm in 1998 and decided to do things completely differently. He became the first certified biodynamic winemaker and is the only one in South Africa with this certification. His goal is to eventually produce his wines completely self-sufficiently. For example, only natural materials are used for Reyneke's pure and flavorful wines. No artificial ingredients are used, and fermentation in the winery uses only natural yeasts. The estate encompasses 20 hectares of vineyards with stunning views of Stellenbosch. Thanks to its location near False Bay, the grapes enjoy a cooling ocean breeze. Thanks to the abundant sunshine, the grapes ripen well and develop sufficient acidity for fresh and elegant wines. The Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 98 percent Shiraz and 2 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are sourced from the finest organic vineyards in the Western Cape. They are carefully harvested separately and sorted at the winery. The grapes are then destemmed, and spontaneous fermentation begins. This process takes place in concrete tanks and stainless steel vats. Twelve percent of the wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels before bottling.

The taste of the balanced Reyneke Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon

As soon as the wine hits the glass, you can enjoy a beautiful aroma of red cherries, violets, herbs, and black pepper. These notes are complemented by blackcurrant aromas and slightly smoky notes. Pepper is clearly evident on the palate, complemented by herbs, dark fruit, and nutmeg. The Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is a balanced wine with good structure and a dry finish.
