Spatburgunder sounds incredibly German. However, it's nothing more than the German name for the renowned Pinot Noir, which grew up in Burgundy. Brogsitter's choice of this grape is no surprise. Ahr, the winery's home base, is also known as the Burgundy of Germany.

Brogsitter's history is one of the longest in German viticulture. The first commercial operations date back to 1600. The winery itself only took on its current form shortly after the Second World War. At that time, Hans Brogsitter decided to merge several small wineries and, as modest as he was, rename it after himself. Now, the second generation, Hans-Joachim Brogsitter, is managing the estate. Under his supervision, Brogsitter's wines have developed into an international, robust, and refined style while preserving centuries of tradition. Over the centuries, Brogsitter has acquired many different vineyards. However, Brogsitter Graf Von Are Ahr Spatburgunder originates from a special vineyard in the Rheinpfalz in Ahr. This vineyard boasts a unique terroir, which gives the Spatburgunder a distinctive, spicy character.

This red wine is named after Graf von Are, the former owner of the vineyard where the Spatburgunder grape grows. As a tribute to this great man, Brogsitter Graf Von Are developed Ahr Spatburgunder. Perhaps the finest in the entire Ahr. Thanks to the vineyard and vinification, the wine has a completely different character than you might expect from a classic Pinot Noir. Round, soft, and refined with barely noticeable acidity. Here, the power of Pinot Noir truly shines through, with small red fruit and a spicy, zesty, yet balanced finish.
