That the Stift Klosterneuburg winery has a very good Zweigelt in its range isn't all that surprising. The winery is, in fact, indirectly the creator. The world's very first viticultural school was founded in the monastery. This is where the world's leading figures in winemaking gathered and continue to gather. Dr. Fritz Zweigelt was a renowned professor at the beginning of the 20th century. His creativity led him to crossbreed the St. Laurent n Blaufrankisch. Modest as this man was, he named it after himself: Zweigelt. And it proved to be a great success, because 100 years after its discovery, Zweigelt wines from Austria are more popular than ever.

The wines of Stift Klosterneuburg

The winery's history becomes even more interesting. It was founded as early as 1114 by order of Count Leopold III. Few wineries in the world remain as relevant after 900 years as Stift Klosterneuburg. Their wines are still internationally acclaimed. This is especially true because Stift Klosterneuburg dares to think outside the box and deviate from the beaten path. This also applies to Stift Klosterneuburg Zweigelt. The Zweigelt vineyards are located in Tattendorf, part of Lower Austria. This is primarily the domain of red grape varieties. The rich terroir, full of gravel and brown soil, provides excellent breeding ground for varieties such as Zweigelt.
