Weingut Triebaumer Zweigelt Rust

Günter and Regina Triebaumer run a family winery in Rust, Burgenland. Their signature is deliberately clear and precise, with a focus on purity in the vineyard and cellar. This Zweigelt is a staple in the house's range and beloved by connoisseurs who enjoy Austrian reds fresh and energetic.

Vineyards and region

The grapes come from Austria, Burgenland, in the municipality of Rust. Fruit comes from Bandkräftn and Gertberg, plots with clay and limestone influences. The proximity of Lake Neusiedl tempers the summer heat, allowing ripe fruit and freshness to go hand in hand. This results in Zweigelt with a pure, dry signature and plenty of vibrancy.

Vinification and maturation

After destemming, the wine ferments on the skins in closed stainless steel tanks at 30°C for 7 days, followed by an additional 2 days of maceration. This is followed by a soft pressing, malolactic fermentation, and aging, first in stainless steel and then in large, used oak barrels. A quick question: should Zweigelt be slightly chilled? Yes, serve at 14–16°C, as this preserves the fruit and spice notes most precisely.

Grape composition

Zweigelt – Bandkräftn, Gertberg
100% Zweigelt, harvested in mid-September, with an emphasis on ripe, juicy fruit and a fresh, lively structure.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

Deep red to purple with a violet edge. The aroma reveals cherries, violets, licorice, and a hint of white pepper. Juicy and dry in flavor with intense fruit, subtle spice, and a refreshing texture. Serve at 14–16°C. Excellent at the table with beef and lamb, light game dishes and poultry, but also with creamy cheeses, soft pâtés, and grilled vegetables such as bell peppers, eggplant, or mushrooms.
