This beautiful Italian estate, owned by the Antinori family, is located six kilometers southwest of Montalcino. The winery is named Pian delle Vigne because of the characteristic 19th-century train station located next to it. The estate boasts 454 hectares of land, approximately 65 of which are planted with the Sangiovese grape, the grape native to the Montalcino region. Pian delle Vigne represents Marchesi Antinori's highly personal interpretation of a prestigious and traditional wine like Brunello di Montalcino. The Antinori family acquired the estate in 1995, the same year the first Brunello Pian delle Vigne was harvested. The Marchesi Antinori family has invested heavily in recent years, and the wines have become world-renowned. Red wines from Pian delle Vigne are featured on many top wine lists in fine restaurants.

The harvest for the Rosso di Montalcino

This Rosso di Montalcino is actually a bit like the younger brother of the great Brunello. But it's a brother with its own style and plenty of suppleness. It gets this from the Sangiovese grape, from which this red wine is entirely pressed. The bunches grow in the old vineyards of Montalcino. The Sangiovese grape gets everything it needs, including plenty of sunshine and a cooling breeze. This allows the bunches to ripen slowly and evenly, allowing the vines to draw abundant nutrients from the broadly structured soil. All the grapes for this red Rosso di Montalcino are harvested by hand and transported in small crates to Antinori Pian Delle Vigne.

Wood bearing for the Antinori Pian Delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino

Once the fine juice is obtained, this Rosso di Montalcino is aged for a full eight months in oak barrels in the cellars of Antinori Pian Delle Vigne. It develops while retaining its youthfulness, creating a perfectly balanced wine. Upon opening the bottle, we immediately smell notes of red fruit with a touch of spice. In the glass, we see a beautiful light ruby red color with a subtle purple sheen. Its aroma is rich and creates a warm feeling. Beautiful impressions of red fruit, such as cherries and tart berries, with light floral hints of violets and lavender. The palate is ripe and soft, with plenty of vibrancy on the palate. Ripe flavors of red and black fruit complemented by notes of cedar, cherry, cocoa, and a touch of spice. The long and smooth finish completes this red wine.
