Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in Victoria is rated with an excellent score of 95 points. This year is characterized by wines of exceptional quality that are still maturing and show great potential.
Marsanne was first planted on the Tahblik estate in 1860, the year it was founded. The remaining vines date back to 1927 and are among the oldest in the world. This white varietal forms the basis for the estate's finest wines, raising its standards year after year.

The old vineyards of Tahbilk

Founded in 1860, Tahbilk is one of Australia's finest and most historic family-owned wineries. Located in the Nagambie Lakes region of central Victoria, the 1,214-hectare estate, purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925, has been home to five generations of Tahbilk family. The name Tahbilk derives from the location, which the local Indigenous people first called "tabilk-tabilk," meaning "place of many waterholes." The vineyards have unique soils of red and sandy loam with high iron oxide content. Tahbilk also boasts a significant number of old vineyards, including plots of Cabernet Sauvignon from 1949, Marsanne from 1927, and even some Shiraz plots dating back to 1860, pre-phylloxera. Tahbilk is home to approximately 200 hectares of vineyards specializing in Rhône grape varieties, including white grapes Marsanne, Viognier, and Roussanne, and red grapes Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvedre. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Verdelho grapes are also grown. Tahbilk first planted Marsanne on its estate in the 1860s, and it has the largest holding of this unique varietal in the world.

Enjoy a complex Marsanne from Tahbilk

The result is a complex white wine that sparkles in the glass with its golden yellow color. The nose offers opulent aromas of dried blossoms, ripe white fruit, and spices. It has a broad palate with a creamy texture and a spicy, spicy finish. An incredibly delicious wine with fish or white meat stews. Also delicious with a cheese board.
