Vintage Report

The 2018 vintage in South Africa has been rated with an excellent score of 92 points. The wines from this year are described as early-maturing and approachable for consumption.
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this red wine come from the Jonkershoek vineyard. This southwest-facing vineyard is planted in granite and sandstone soil. This allows the grapes to develop unique characteristics, resulting in subtle aromas and a fresh flavor.

Neil Ellis's good reputation

The Neil Ellis family business has grown since Neil Ellis's adventure in 1984, when he gathered various grapes from Stellenbosch and began producing wine in rented cellars. Thanks to his knowledge of the ideal conditions for each grape variety, he quickly earned a reputation as a pioneer. After countless explorations and experiments, he achieved groundbreaking results and produced high-quality wines under his own name. Today, the company has grown into a large and successful family business, with the second generation at the helm. They excel at translating the knowledge, passion, and experience of the past into practice. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are carefully harvested and then taken directly to the winery. Here, the grapes are pressed and transferred to stainless steel tanks. This is followed by temperature-controlled maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in brand new French oak barrels. This process contributes to the flavor and texture of the final wine.

The aromas of Neil Ellis Jonkershoek Cabernet Sauvignon

This Cabernet Sauvignon emerges with an intensely dark color. The aroma is appealing, with notes of blueberry and blackberry. Thanks to the oak aging, cedar notes also emerge. The palate is wonderfully fresh with a pleasant structure. Fine tannins lead to a long, flavorful finish.
