The Mooring is based on the romantic adventures of explorers, sailors, and other pirates of the past centuries. While the ocean view from the mesa is breathtaking, it also served as the backdrop for many horrors. Many ships sank due to the violent collisions between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. The Mooring Sauvignon Blanc is inspired by the story of the Birkenhead. This British ship, which specialized in troop transport, was shipwrecked on February 26, 1852, during bad weather. To this day, the wreck still lies on the seabed near Gansbaai and was prominently featured on the label of The Mooring Sauvignon Blanc.
