Vintage Report
The 2023 vintage in South Africa is rated as excellent with a Parker score of 90 points. The wines from this year are still youthful and have a beautiful character.
The Warwick family's most famous wine is, of course, this white wine, The First Lady Unoaked Chardonnay. "Excellent with a great deal of suppleness," as a renowned wine journalist once said. We concur, as this white wine simply has everything you'd expect from a good glass of Chardonnay. But that doesn't happen by chance; they work hard at the Simonsberg vineyard to ensure the grapes have everything they need. The old vines are well-suited to the hot weather thanks to their deeply dug roots. These deep roots allow them to absorb sufficient moisture, which is crucial for the warm weather. Thanks to the abundant sunshine in Stellenbosch, the grapes ripen beautifully and guarantee a powerful Chardonnay.
The harvest of The First Lady Chardonnay
When the Chardonnay grapes reach their ideal ripeness, the harvest begins. They are gathered entirely by hand, and during the picking process, they are also rigorously selected. According to the Warwick family, only the finest bunches are allowed to be bottled. The harvest is impressive every year, and we clearly see the vines aging, producing increasingly powerful bunches. A gentle pressing allows the juice to flow smoothly into the steel vats. The juice is so beautiful that the winemaker decided not to age this First Lady unoaked Chardonnay in oak. It's simply unnecessary, and you can taste the mature style in this white wine. What does Chardonnay taste like?
It's a real treat; the fruit just bursts forth upon opening the bottle. Beautiful aromas of pineapple, mango, white flowers, and a delightful hint of citrus! Oh, how delicious! Not heavy, but simply refined. The palate is wonderfully open and juicy, with lovely fruit nuances of peach, pear, and citrus. This Warwick The First Lady Chardonnay has a lovely, thick structure and a mild, refreshing finish.Product details
