This delicious red wine is Librandi's flagship wine, made from 100% Gaglioppo grapes. Only the very best grapes are good enough. It's even said that the ancient Greeks served this wine to victorious Olympic athletes 2,000 years ago. A wine for winners!

Winemaking at Librandi

The Librandi winery is a family of winegrowers who have been lovingly cultivating their vineyards for four generations. The family manages over 155 hectares of vineyards. All the grape varieties used come from this vineyard. The estate is divided into numerous small plots, each with a different soil or microclimate. This ranges from cooler areas with looser soil to warmer locations with exposed clay hills. Initially, only grapes were grown, but in the 1950s, the family members decided to establish their own winery and, consequently, to bottle the wines themselves. This Duca San Felice is made from the finest grapes and aged in oak barriques. It is a special, classic wine, as it has been made for thousands of years, based on the same grape as in classical antiquity. The Gaglioppo grapes are ideally suited to the hot and dry climate of the region. It is planted near the sea, as this has a tempering effect on the highest temperatures. It is a powerful wine that further emphasizes its classic character. This is due to the lower yields than with the regular Ciro Rosso, and the long fermentation of three weeks. All in all, a powerful wine that is simultaneously subtle.

What does the Librandi Duca San Felice Ciro Riserva taste like?

As soon as we open the bottle, we're greeted by aromas of blackberries, spices, and a pleasant touch of cinnamon and cloves. The wine also has a robust, powerful flavor with cherry fruit and plenty of aromatic power. This Duca San Felice has a unique character thanks to the use of the indigenous Gaglioppo grape, with a good length on the finish.
