Alsace, a land of contrasts, boasts a wide variety of terroirs and landscapes. It enjoys a dry and temperate climate, boasts exceptionally favorable soils, and is ideally situated for its vineyards. Balthazar Fry produces exceptional wines here under the watchful eye of experienced winemakers. Each of these French wines reflects its unique terroir.

The elegance of Balthazar Fry wines

Dozens of villages lie along the eastern foothills of the Vosges Mountains, including the fairytale village of Bergheim in the heart of Alsace. This region boasts a wide variety of soil types, each changing every few kilometers. You'll encounter limestone, slate, marl, granite, and volcanic soils. The climate is variable and, thanks to the Vosges Mountains, sheltered from precipitation. Plenty of cool air flows from the north and west, providing a welcome respite from the warm days. The Balthazar Fry family, the first winegrowing family to settle in Bergheim in 1748, is now the seventh generation, keeping the traditions alive, combined with a contemporary philosophy and approach. The striving is always for a balance between acidity, sweetness, and alcohol, with an emphasis on elegance. Quality is paramount and is therefore the goal. Environmental protection also plays a major role in winemaking, as only a living soil can convey the character of the terroir to a vine, so the thinking goes. The winery owns a total of 33 hectares of vineyards, which have been organically certified since 2012.

What does the Balthazar Fry Pinot Blanc taste like?

Pinot Blanc is one of the most popular wines/grape varieties from Alsace. This Balthazar Fry Pinot Blanc is also a pure beauty. The impression begins with pouring this white wine. A pure and clear color with a slight green shimmer is revealed. It flows from the glass, revealing ripe citrus notes with hints of grapefruit and green herbs. The palate is soft, rounded, and very flavorful. Beautiful, rich flavors of white and citrus fruit, with hints of lime and gooseberry.
