The 2020 vintage in Rioja is rated an excellent 93 points according to the Robert Parker charts. The wines from this year show a strong structure and are still in their developmental phase.

Every Spaniard knows the wines of Leza García from the Rioja region. For over a hundred years, this beautiful bodega has been producing wines in the Rioja's most beautiful wine region, Rioja Alta. Surrounding it are the vineyards of Leza García. The founder of this winery, Mr. Juan Leza Arenzana, personally selected the vineyards around 1920. It was quite a search, as he simply wanted the best sites for his grape varieties. This search has paid off for the family, as today the old, thick stems yield a fantastic harvest. However, according to Juan Leza Arenzana, this doesn't happen automatically; it takes hard work to make them shine. The family holds their reputation dearly and has released their top wine, the Leza García Rioja LG.

For this top-quality wine, only Tempranillo grapes are used, sourced from the oldest vines. These aged vines have deep roots, allowing them to draw abundant nutrients from the soil. The climate is perfect, with warm afternoons, cool breezes, and cool nighttime temperatures. Each bunch is harvested by hand and rigorously selected to obtain the finest juice. The bunches are collected in small crates and taken to the Leza García press. After pressing, this LC undergoes a very long aging process of up to several months in only new oak barrels. Both French and American oak barrels are used to give the wine even more depth. Especially because these are new barrels, which cost up to four hundred euros each, this red wine develops a fantastic character. The new oak lends its strength and suppleness to this top-quality wine.

What does the Leza García Rioja LG taste like?

It's a crown jewel, a true Rioja gem. On the nose, this wine boasts unparalleled, beautiful nuances of blackberry, cherry, and cherry, complemented by spices like cinnamon and bay leaf. But swirl this wine well in a large glass, because only then will it reveal everything: cedarwood, vanilla, licorice, and chocolate. On the palate, it's simply a powerful force, with plenty of black fruit and a wealth of other notes, but you'll have to discover that for yourself.
