The Donnafugata winery, also located in Sicily, is the brainchild of a passionate family that revolutionized the style and perception of Sicilian wine worldwide. The estate now covers 338 hectares and is currently run by the fifth generation of the Rallo family. Donnafugata wines are distinguished by their pleasantness and complexity. Their goal is to create wines that captivate and delight the tasters. The Sur Sur Grillo is a prime example. Grillo is an ancient, indigenous Sicilian grape variety, but it also represents a cute little animal (the cricket) that brings good luck. The name "sur sur," meaning cricket, comes from the classical Arabic language once spoken in Sicily. The voice of spring, with its scents and colors, is depicted on the label. Gabriella (the founder of Donnafugata, with her husband Giacomo) is depicted as a girl in flight, barefoot among the flowers in the fresh grass.

The aroma and taste of the Donnafugata Sur Sur Grillo

After harvest, the wine is placed in stainless steel vats and aged for two months. It then matures in bottle for at least another three months. The beautiful straw-yellow color complements the delightful crisp aroma of this wine, where we find peaches, apple, and citrus accompanied by a meadow of wildflowers and freshly mown grass. On the palate, it is a soft yet flavorful wine with herbs, green grass, and a hint of lime. A wine that strikes the perfect balance between aroma and flavor.
