Since joining our selection, Château de Corcelles has captured our hearts. They still produce the classic Beaujolais wines that were so popular in the second half of the 20th century. However, Château de Corcelles's history dates back to the Middle Ages, when the magnificent castle was built. In the centuries that followed, the winery acquired some of the most impressive vineyards, including those in Morgon, one of Beaujolais's most important Premier Crus.

Morgon's story began in September 1936, when it officially acquired its appellation. From then on, this second-largest appellation was required to adhere to the rules. For example, only the Gamay grape is found around Mont du Puy, which forms Morgon's radiant, stately center. The terroir is unique, containing a lot of sandy slate, which clearly influences the wine. The Gamay grapes from Château de Corcelles Morgon are harvested manually by a group of 150 grape pickers. It's almost a privilege to be part of this team. Each grape must be individually inspected to achieve the highest possible quality at Château de Corcelles Morgon. After vinification, a small portion of Château de Corcelles Morgon is aged in oak barrels to emphasize the complexity of this wine.

This Morgon is just a bit more exciting and challenging than its more southerly cousin, Brouilly. Thanks in part to the unique terroir and the short oak aging, the wine is more opulent.
