If we're truly talking about authentic and classic French wines, we can't ignore the Château de Corcelles winery. Housed in a majestic castle, it boasts a fascinating history. It's located in one of France's smallest wine regions, yet one that vinologists are passionate about: Beaujolais. A region where purity of winemaking is still held in high regard.
The French wines from Beaujolais
First, we're going to dig deep into our memories to unearth our Beaujolais knowledge, because how did it all go again? The region's reputation has been somewhat tarnished, partly due to the Beaujolais Primeur released annually in November. The region has much more to offer. Geographically, a large portion of Beaujolais (the important northern part) falls within Burgundy. However, the Beaujolais Cru wines have developed a truly distinct identity, making even the most seasoned wine drinker consider Beaujolais a separate region. It is divided into two sub-regions: Bas Beaujolais and Haut Beaujolais. The latter, in particular, is known for its distinctive crus such as Fleurie, Moulin-a-Vent, Brouille, and Julienas.
The wines of Chateau de Corcelles
The Château de Corcelles winery is located just north of Morgon, one of Beaujolais's most famous Crus, and is situated at the epicenter of this dazzling wine region. It occupies a castle whose history is steeped in the history of many prominent families. It was rebuilt centuries ago on even older foundations by Antoin de Laye. During the 16th century, the château came into the hands of the Tircuy de la Barre family, who occupied it for an impressive four centuries. During these centuries, the name evolved into its current name: Château de Corcelles. Today, the numerous rooms, adorned with rich Renaissance elements, are occupied by the Richard family, who are also responsible for the current viticulture at Château de Corcelles.
The Beaujolais Cru from Chateau de Corcelles
Chateau de Corcelles owns several exceptional vineyards in the most unique parts of the Haut Beaujolais. And exceptional cru wines; that's what Beaujolais is known for. Despite the fact that only one grape variety, Gamay, is permitted everywhere, each village has its own distinct character, thanks in part to the enormous diversity of the terroir. Chateau de Corcelles has cleverly capitalized on this and can therefore offer a wide palette of delicious, high-quality wines from the Haut Beaujolais Villages.

Not every village has vineyards in Chateau de Corcelles. They strive to achieve only the highest quality. And if that's not possible in a particular village, they'd rather produce no wine than subpar. However, Chateau de Corcelles has vineyards in a handful of exceptionally special vineyards, the most notable of which are those in Brouilly. They also produce excellent wines in Morgon and Fleurie. Remarkably, Chateau de Corcelles also has "general" vineyards in the south, in Bas Beaujolais, where they have planted their Chardonnay. The wine doesn't have a specific appellation, but it does offer a magnificent, unique Beaujolais Chardonnay.
