The 2020 vintage in South Africa has been rated excellent with a score of 92. The wines from this year show a youthful character and have a solid structure.

This Organic Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot from Reyneke is a very enjoyable wine. Thanks to its powerful notes and excellent structure, it pairs perfectly with most meat dishes or a cheese board. This wine is also 100% organic, as the winemaker not only produces good wine but also wants to do something good for the environment and nature.

Unique wine growing at Reyneke

In 1998, Johan Reyneke took over his mother's Stellenbosch farm. He quickly decided to change course. He now focuses entirely on the rules of organic farming. But even more so, he believes in the philosophy of Rudoph Steiner, who uses herbs, minerals, and cosmic cycles in his farming. According to Reyneke, this ensures the wines are in harmony with nature and avoids any artificial agriculture. The estate comprises 20 hectares of vineyards with stunning views of Stellenbosch. Thanks to its location near False Bay, the grapes enjoy a cooling ocean breeze. The abundant sunshine allows the grapes to ripen well and develop sufficient acidity for fresh and elegant wines. This red blend is made with equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. They are sourced from the finest organic vineyards in the Western Cape. At peak ripeness, they are carefully harvested. At the winery, the grapes are sorted and destemmed. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks and stainless steel vats. Finally, 35 percent of the wine is aged for 10 months in older oak barrels.

The fruity notes of Reyneke Organic Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

The aroma reveals strong notes of black currant, cherry, cedarwood, and spices. The palate develops notes of black fruit, cherry spice, and licorice, giving the wine a warm and pleasant character. This Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is a balanced wine with a fine structure. Deliciously juicy with sweet tannins. The fruity notes reappear in the long, dry finish.
