Vintage Report

The 2017 vintage for Brunello di Montalcino received a score of 88, indicating above-average to excellent quality. The wines from this year are considered early maturing and are currently ready for drinking.
Casisano's Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its elegance and deep ruby color. It has good concentration on the mid-palate and a lingering finish, with a round and voluptuous body and interesting, silky tannins. It combines power and elegance and looks promising. With its seductive aromas of red berries and clean freshness, the complexity of this wine presents an excellent balance.

Mature winemaking and age-old traditions

Casisano boasts a beautiful natural terrace overlooking the southern part of Montalcino, near the Abbey of St. Antimo. The estate covers 53 hectares, of which 22 are vineyards, eight are planted with olive trees, and the remainder is covered with ancient woodland. As a project dedicated to highlighting Montalcino's prestigious denominations, Casisano Winery represents the perfect union between the centuries-old tradition of land cultivation and the mature winemaking experience of the Tommasi Family. The Tommasi family has been involved in wine production for over a hundred years, ever since Giacomo Battista Tommasi purchased a small vineyard in Valpolicella Classica in 1902. Throughout this entire period, spanning four generations, the family has always directly managed this business with innovative decisions, while maintaining the fundamental respect, understanding, and love for tradition and the land. Casisano is therefore the latest addition to the extensive Tommasi Family Project, which seeks out the most renowned areas suitable for producing fine wines. The soil is rocky and rich in Galestro, a typical rock in this area, and tends to be dry and poor. The unique microclimate and the concentration of rain in spring and late autumn influence the growth of Sangiovese and give the grapes a unique flavor.

What does Casisano Brunello di Montalcino taste like?

This ruby-red wine has a balanced and elegant bouquet, with wonderful, intense fruity and spicy notes typical of the Sagiovese grape. The palate is dry, velvety, warm, balanced, yet intense and persistent. Brunello is a superb wine that pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes like grilled meat or game, and also makes an excellent pairing with spicy cheeses. Casisano recommends decanting the wine at least an hour before serving to fully express its quality.
