The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

The Rombauer Zinfandel 2020 is a powerful yet relatively fresh Californian Zinfandel in which ripe fruit and careful oak aging come together. What makes Zinfandel from California so recognizable? Thanks to the warm climate here, the grape develops a high level of ripeness, making the wine known for its full structure and concentrated fruit expression.

This wine is made from Zinfandel, sourced from various vineyards in California (including Sierra Foothills and Sonoma ).

The grapes for this wine come from several wine regions within California, where Zinfandel has played an important role for decades.

  • Warm climate zones : ensure optimal ripening of Zinfandel.
  • Cooling effects : help maintain balance and freshness.
  • Vineyard selection : contributes to complexity in the final blend.

This combination produces a Zinfandel with depth and structure.

Zinfandel – California
Zinfandel is known for its powerful character, deep color, and ripe fruit expression.

Fermentation takes place with controlled extraction to build color and structure. Subsequently, the wine ages partly in oak, which adds extra depth and complexity to the whole.

In the glass, this wine displays a deep ruby red color with purple reflections. The style is characterized by ripe dark fruit, spicy notes, and a full structure. The combination of fruit and wood results in a powerful yet balanced wine.

Serve at around 16–18 °C to allow the structure and complexity to fully come into their own.

Rombauer Vineyards was founded in 1980 in Napa Valley and grew into one of the better-known producers of Californian wines. The winery is particularly known for its rich style and consistent quality, with both Chardonnay and Zinfandel playing an important role within the range.

Vintage 2020
2020 was a challenging year for California, with Robert Parker giving Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon an 87-point score, mainly due to issues with wildfires. Despite this, some producers, through careful selection, managed to produce wines with good concentration and structure.
