Codorníu is located in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Catalonia. It is a family business that has grown into one of the largest cava producers. Codorníu also has locations in California and Argentina. Codorníu's origins go back a long way. Documents dating back to 1551 show that the Codorníu family was already involved in the wine business. However, at that time, it was mainly concerned with wine barrels and wine presses. In 1659, Anna de Codorníu married Miquel Raventós. Anna was the last owner to bear the Codorníu name. The company has been in the hands of the Raventós family ever since. Beneath the Codorníu buildings lie vast cellars with a network of tunnels spanning 38 kilometers, spread over five floors. This beautiful building was designed at the end of the 19th century by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Since 1975, it has been declared a national monument by the Catalan government. Codorníu works with various grape varieties to create these beautiful cavas. The most commonly used are the Macabeo, Parellada, Xarel-lo, and Chardonnay grapes. One of Codorníu's most famous cavas is the Anna de Codorníu, made from the Chardonnay grape and named after the last owner who bore this beautiful name.
