Buy or order Esporão wine

A stroll through one of Esporāo's many vineyards makes us secretly fall in love. Not only with the phenomenal winery, but also with Portugal. This fascinating country has always been a neglected child in European winemaking. France, Italy, and Spain have traditionally accounted for the largest share of wine production. Fortunately, more and more consumers are discovering the splendor of Portuguese wines. Esporāo Winery will delight you even more. Besides a wide selection and sky-high quality, they produce all their wines sustainably.

The wines from Portugal from Esporão

It was primarily Port wines that gained recognition among the wine-drinking public. Winemaking always lagged behind somewhat, until 1986, when Portugal joined the European Union. This made Portuguese winegrowers eligible for subsidies, and the market for Portuguese wine grew. The strength of Portuguese wines lies in the high proportion of local grape varieties, which are gradually becoming real crowd-pleasers. The Esporāo winery has also planted many indigenous grape varieties. For example, the Esporāo Assobio Red and Esporāo Monte Velho White are beautiful blends of local Portuguese grape varieties.

Esporão and its beautiful wines

The strength of the Esporāo winery lies in its grapevines. It is located in Alentejo, a region that covers almost the entire southern coast of Portugal, except for the Algarve. This region is known for its scorching summers and relatively cool winters. Because Esporāo has been intensively cultivating wine since the 1980s, it has acquired numerous vineyards over the decades. Many of the grapevines are local varieties. However, Esporāo is one of the few wineries in Portugal that also cultivates many international varieties. The most famous grapes are Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Semillon. The latter is used to make the renowned Esporāo Private Selection White. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah make up a significant portion of Esporāo Reserva Red and Esporāo Monte Velho Red.

The power of the Esporão winery

All in all, Esporāo hasn't been sitting still. They're constantly expanding. In 2002, for example, they built a second winery specializing in white wines, and the iconic Esporāo Bico Amarelo Vinho Verde saw the light of day. Since 2016, Esporāo has also focused on olive oil production, and tourism has become a major player. The winery welcomes an impressive 50,000 visitors annually! Currently, Esporāo plays in the premier league of Portuguese winemaking and is vying for a place on the podium.
