Montecillo is the heirloom of the Rioja region. The first vines were planted in the Rioja Alta as early as 1870. The Navajas family, the winery's founders, ran it for years based on tradition, craftsmanship, and a passion for wine. This made them a distinctive force in the densely populated Rioja landscape. Over 100 years later, in 1973, the winery was taken over by another renowned family in Spanish winemaking: the Osborne family (yes, the one with the Sherry). Currently, Rocio Osborne, the sixth generation, is in charge of Montecillo's daily operations.
