An impressive winery with a remarkable history. Founded in 1985 as a hobby that got out of hand, three friends—Tim Murphy, Dale Good, and Dave Ready—joined forces to establish Murphy Good Winery. The winery is located just north of Santa Rosa, about an hour and a half's drive from the bustling metropolis of San Francisco. For nearly forty years, the region has been producing some of California's most exquisite wines.

However, the story of Murphy Good goes back even further in time. It's 1974, when pioneer Jess Jackson purchased a mere 32 hectares of vineyards in California. These 32 hectares grew into one of California's largest wineries: Kendall Jackson. When Jess Jackson passed away in 2011, the Jackson family continued the revolutionary's life's work. Among other things, they purchased Murphy Good. As a result, this iconic winery has been under Kendall Jackson's care for ten years.

The addition to the Kendall Jackson empire has been a significant boon for Murphy Goode. Thanks in part to Kendall Jackson's inventive distribution system, Murphy Goode's wines have now reached a much wider audience. However, despite the addition to Kendall Jackson, Murphy Goode's wines have always retained their distinctive character.

The wood-aged Chardonnay from California

When you think of Californian wines, it's hard to ignore the Chardonnay grape. This beloved white grape has experienced a true revival thanks to Californian winemakers. California's sunny climate, combined with the fresh Pacific breeze, produces exceptionally high-quality Chardonnay grapes. They have character, but also a distinct fruitiness. The magnificent Mupfel Goode example is aged with only 10% oak. This allows the winemaker to precisely capture the balance of a good Chardonnay.

The finest wines from Murphy Goode

While Murphy Goode's Chardonnay has a very good reputation, the winery has much more to offer. Red grape varieties, with resounding names like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, have also earned a prominent place in Murphy Goode's vineyards. However, it remains the local hero Zinfandel that arguably delivers Murphy Goode's finest wine. In our opinion, the Murphy Goode Liars Dice Zinfandel is arguably one of the best Zinfandel wines from California.
