Buy or order Opus One wine

Opus One, located in the heart of Napa Valley, California, is the result of a visionary collaboration between two wine industry icons: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and American wine pioneer Robert Mondavi. Founded in 1978, they sought to create a wine that combines the elegance of Bordeaux with the expressiveness of Napa Valley.

History and Dedication

The meeting between Mondavi and De Rothschild in 1970 led to a unique alliance that resulted in the first vintage of Opus One in 1979. Initially known as "Napamedoc," this wine was renamed Opus One in 1982. Its first release in 1984 marked a milestone in the wine industry, with Opus One being one of the first ultra-premium wines from California.

Vineyard and Terroir

Opus One's vineyards span four parcels in the western part of the renowned Oakville AVA, including parts of the legendary To Kalon Vineyard. Five traditional Bordeaux grape varieties are carefully cultivated here: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The unique terroir, with its diverse soils and microclimates, contributes to the complexity and depth of the wines.

Characteristics of the Wines

Opus One produces two wines: its flagship wine, Opus One, and Overture. Opus One is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend with aromas of black plum, blueberry, and dried rose petals, accented by mineral notes. Overture, made from grapes not used in the Opus One blend, offers a more accessible expression of the estate.

These wines embody a perfect balance of power and finesse, structure and texture, offering a unique experience for wine lovers worldwide.
