This award-winning Reserve Merlot is also a prime example of the work of grand master Jean Claude Mas, who has been at the helm of the family business since 2000. Jean Claude is no stranger to the wine world, known as one of France's finest winemakers. We concur: enchanting wines, and at this price point. Unique, indeed. The vineyard for this red wine is now mature, and the winemaker is delivering a superb Merlot harvest. Thanks to the perfect climate and, more importantly, the well-structured soil, the grapes grow exceptionally well and absorb many rich flavors.

Wood aging for the Paul Mas Reserve Merlot

After a long, beautiful ripening period on the vines in France, the Merlot grapes are harvested mechanically overnight. Upon arrival, all Merlot bunches are placed on sorting tables and subjected to rigorous quality control. According to Jean-Claude Mas, the purity of the juice is crucial, and we certainly taste that. After pressing, thirty percent of the wine is aged in oak barrels. Both French and American oak barrels are used to give this Merlot greater strength and suppleness.

The aroma is elegant and full-bodied, with abundant plum, red berry, and spicy aromas, finished with notes of vanilla and licorice. The taste of this Paul Mas Estate Merlot is truly a work of art, perfectly balanced with soft yet present tannins. Recurring notes of black fruit, toffee, vanilla, and licorice.
