It took a while for this Dolcetto to gain the recognition it deserves. Its popularity has grown considerably in recent years, and rightly so! Like Barbera and Nebbiolo, it's a true regional grape that can produce interesting wines. This grape variety ripens a little more easily and quickly, so it's also grown in cooler regions of Italy. The Dolcetto for this wine comes from the communes of Treiso, Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga, and Madonna Como, partly within the Barolo region and partly within the Barbaresco region.

High quality wines from Pio Cesare

For 135 years and across five generations, Pio Cesare has been producing wines in his ancient cellars in the center of Alba. The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio. A highly successful entrepreneur, he was inspired to produce a small, select batch of wines from the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco for himself, his family, friends, and customers. Cesare Pio was dedicated to the terroir of the Piedmont region and to producing wines of the highest quality. Over the years, Cesare Pio has built a thriving business. Today, the brand is renowned both nationally and internationally and is one of the most respected names among Italian wine producers.

The beautiful qualities of Pio Cesare Dolcetto d'Alba

After the harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats for six to eight days. This is a short period to keep the wine supple and preserve the fruit. This makes for a textbook Dolcetto: fruity, juicy, and supple. Upon opening the bottle, a warm aroma greets you with beautiful red fruit, cherries, and berries, along with a touch of spice and warmth. The palate is dry and supple, with a pleasantly light almond bitterness, round and creamy, in a delightfully elegant and fresh style, very invigorating. It pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto and pasta dishes, such as spaghetti carbonara, and also pairs well with light main courses.
