Spier's South African wines

Spier's history is a truly impressive one. It dates back to 1692, when South Africa was still a colony. It was the Dutch who, earlier in the century, recognized Stellenbosch's potential. They were the first to plant vines. In 1692, German colonist Arnout Janz founded a farm just outside Stellenbosch. He also planted several vines there. Thanks to his dedication and passion, Spier Winery grew little by little. From that day on, more than 500 years later, Spier Estate is one of the largest wineries in South Africa.
