Buy or order Veuve Clicquot wine

One of the leading champagne houses in Reims, the capital of Champagne, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin has left its mark on Champagne for nearly 250 years. This winery was progressive and innovative, particularly because Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin was the first major winery to be led by a woman. A remarkable achievement in the early 19th century. Under the leadership of Veuve Clicquot (widow) Clicquot, Veuve Clicquot rose to become the second-largest producer in Champagne. The champagne house has an impressive track record and continues to develop in the 21st century. Think of the Veuve Clicquot Rich, an impressive champagne that should be enjoyed with ice. Veuve Clicquot champagne can be ordered at perfectewijn.nl, the number one online wine shop!

The founding of Veuve Clicquot

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin was founded in 1772 under the name Clicquot. Philippe Clicquot was a banker with a vision. He already owned several vineyards and decided to establish his own champagne house. His goal was to cross borders and make champagne famous worldwide. He succeeded; he was the first to commercially export champagne on a large scale. It was to romantic Venice that the first shipment of Clicquot champagne arrived. In 1798, Philippe Clicquot passed the now-famous champagne house on to his son, Francois Clicquot, who had married Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, the 20-year-old daughter of the Mayor of Reims, in the summer of 1798. However, their happiness was short-lived; after seven years of marriage, in 1805, Francois Clicquot died suddenly, and his widow (Veuve) Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, at the age of 27, was suddenly on her own.

The Widow Clicquot

Barbe-Nicole was a shrewd woman. Despite the grief of losing her husband, she took charge of the renowned champagne house. She soon changed the name to Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, the name it still bears today. Barbe-Nicole Clicquot was the first businesswoman of the modern era. Veuve Clicquot was progressive. For example, her widow invented the Pupitre, a device used to remove yeast from champagne bottles on a large scale. This was incredibly modern for its time. Veuve Clicquot was also responsible for the popularity of its champagne in Russia. The prominent tsarist families, in particular, were great fans of Veuve Clicquot champagnes. She was also a tremendous inspiration for many other women, who also went on to take the helm of champagne houses.

Businesswoman of the Year

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin inspires women and encourages them to continue developing themselves. For example, in honor of its 200th anniversary, Veuve Clicquot created a "Business Women Award." This was to encourage women in business to realize that, just like the Widow, even women can achieve great things on their own! This award was established in 1972 and has since been received by more than 300 women in 27 countries. 1972 was a special year in even more ways. It was also the year that Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame was bottled for the first time. A champagne, in honor of Veuve Clicquot, is a blend of approximately 92% Pinot Noir and 8% Chardonnay from the finest Grand Cru vineyards owned by Veuve Clicquot. A truly exceptional vintage champagne!

The Champagne style of Veuve Clicquot

Champagne is a product that may only be produced in the Champagne region. Only grapes grown within the Champagne region may be used. Typically, three grape varieties are used: one white (Chardonnay) and two red (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunoir). The proportions in Champagne reflect the style of a Champagne house. Veuve Clicquot, for example, is a true "Pinot Noir" house, thanks to its lavish use of Pinot Noir grapes. This gives the Champagne a deep and flavorful character. This complex style has made Veuve Clicquot beloved by wine lovers worldwide.

The different champagnes of Veuve Clicquot

Veuve Clicquot became known for its classic Brut champagne. It is this style of champagne that earned it fame. However, Veuve Clicquot truly became famous with the development of its rosé champagne. Veuve Clicquot is said to have been the first to develop rosé champagne. This style had a large following, including the Russian court. Furthermore, the Veuve Clicquot Vintage champagnes are iconic. This champagne is produced only in the finest vintages, from the best vineyards owned by Veuve Clicquot. In 1972, the ultimate tribute to Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Le Grande Dame, was released. A superlative of its own vintage. A few years ago, Veuve Clicquot launched its latest product: Veuve Clicquot Rich. An exclusive champagne that is best enjoyed over ice. All exquisite champagnes can be ordered at perfectewijn.nl.
