Veuve Clicquot Rich Rosé Champagne AOC
Veuve Clicquot Rich Rosé is Veuve Clicquot's playful, gourmand rosé champagne, specially developed to be enjoyed extra cold or on ice. This cuvée is all about generous fruit aromas, smoothness, and a distinctly gastronomic style, without losing the freshness of champagne. What sets Veuve Clicquot Rich Rosé apart from a classic rosé champagne? The higher dosage of 55g per liter and the special blend with still red wine from Bouzy were deliberately chosen so that the wine retains its full, fruity character on ice and truly comes alive.
Vineyards and region
Veuve Clicquot Rich Rosé hails from France, from the Champagne region, where the house has been based in Reims since the 18th century. Grapes selected for this cuvée come from various villages in the region, using Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay as the base. Some of the Pinot Noir is vinified as a still red wine in Bouzy and later added to the blend to enhance the rosé color and red fruit. Approximately 40 to 45% of the blend consists of reserve wines, wines from previous vintages that add complexity and a consistent Veuve Clicquot signature, even in this more modern, richer style.
Vinification and maturation
Rich Rosé is made according to the traditional méthode traditionnelle, with a second fermentation in the bottle and aging on the lees. The dosage is 55g per liter, significantly higher than for a brut, ensuring the wine remains perfectly balanced when served over ice or very cold. The use of a significant portion of reserve wine and the addition of approximately 15% red wine from Bouzy creates a champagne with considerable depth of color, aroma, and flavor. After at least three years of bottle aging, the bubbles are fine and creamy, and the brioche-like baking notes complement the ripe fruit and spicy notes.
Grape composition
Pinot Noir – Champagne
Pinot Noir forms the base with 50% of the blend and provides structure, body and the core of the red fruit, especially in combination with the still red wine from Bouzy which provides the rosé hue.
Meunier – Champagne
Meunier accounts for 30% and brings juiciness, softness in texture and extra-ripe red and exotic fruit, giving Rich Rosé a very approachable, full-bodied style.
Chardonnay – Champagne
Chardonnay makes up 20% of the blend and provides fresh acidity, citrus notes and a light minerality that provide balance and length in the finish.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
In the glass, Veuve Clicquot Rich Rosé displays a vibrant rosé color with refined, persistent bubbles. The aroma is intense and very gourmand, with violet candy notes, ripe red fruits like strawberry, raspberry, and red currant, alongside exotic fruits like pineapple, watermelon, and date. You'll also find notes of fig, peach, and pear, fresh notes of lemongrass and peppermint, and spicy accents of ginger, white pepper, anise, and nutmeg, rounded out by biscuit, toast, and light roasted aromas. This spectrum returns on the palate in a round, creamy style with a lively mousse, abundant red and tropical fruit, and a long, smooth finish that blends sweetness and freshness. Rich Rosé is specifically designed to be enjoyed ice cold or over ice, preferably in a large glass with ice cubes, as a festive aperitif or as an accompaniment to fruity desserts, summer snacks, and other occasions when you're looking for a distinctly rich, gourmet champagne style.
