Weingut Köbelin, a true family winery, has been known in the region for years for its excellence and exceptional taste. The history of Weingut Köbelin is very long. In 1957, Albert Köbelin took over the business from his father, who had worked diligently on the vineyards. Albert had a son who was always on the road with his father and learned the trade at a very young age. Thus, Arndt Köbelin, Albert's son, even began working at various other wineries worldwide at the age of sixteen. He produced the finest wines at major wineries worldwide, before returning to his vineyards in Baden. He makes the family wines with great pride and truly knows how to make them shine. Not long ago, he also built a brand new winery. Only materials related to winemaking were used in the building, including wood, steel, and glass. Weingut Köbelin also produces some top wines. These wines fall under the Lösswand 3 Sterne series.

Wood aging for this German white wine

3 Sterne stands for vines that must be at least 45 years old, yield reduction, and the wine must be aged in oak barrels. This Köblein Grauer Burgunder Lösswand 3 Sterne meets all these requirements! The old vineyards where the grapes for this special German white wine grow are located in one of the most prime locations in the winery. Soil structure plays a major role during the grapes' growing season. Because the vineyards are planted on volcanic soil, they produce phenomenal grapes. Once the Grauburgunder grapes have reached the right ripeness at the end of the beautiful growing season, owner and winemaker Arndt Köbelin will begin the harvest. All grapes are hand-picked, as only the finest fruit is good enough for this top-notch wine. Once the grapes are gently pressed, the beautiful, pure juice remains, ready for fermentation and vinification. For a perfect finish, this white wine also undergoes beautiful oak aging in French oak barrels for several months.

Why buy the Köbeling Lösswand 3 sterne?

This must be a good wine. Luckily, we get to taste it. We carefully uncork the bottle, pour the wine, and let our senses do their thing. We see a beautiful honey-yellow color. The structure of this Grauer Burgunder from Köbelin is also beautifully full. On the nose, we noted hints of ripe pear, orange blossom, citrus, and a light herbal note of thyme. This translates into a beautifully full-bodied wine with pleasant hints of ripe white fruit, a light spiciness, and a lovely fresh undertone. On the back of the tongue, we also noted a touch of vanilla from the oak. The finish is intense and long, yet beautifully fresh and classic.
