Austrian wines - White

Buy Austrian Wine

Wine has been produced in Austria for centuries. Its rich and long history as a wine country has been marked by its ups and downs. With over 36 percent of the grapes planted, Gruner Veltliner can rightly be called the pride of the country. These wines have a vibrant, pure, and fresh character. In the mid-20th century, there was also high demand for sweet wines, such as Trockenbeerenauslese, made in Austria. However, the World Wars put a stop to wine growing in Austria. Add to that the antifreeze affair and by the mid-1980s, Austrian wine exports were virtually zero.

However, Austria is climbing out of its proverbial trough. Thanks to this antifreeze scandal, Austria now has some of the strictest wine regulations in the world. This is paying off. The quality of Austrian wines is guaranteed and assured. Moreover, a new generation of winemakers is emerging. Winemakers with international experience. Winemakers who want to put Austrian wines back on the map and are passionate about wine. They are also proud of Austria. That's why many Austrian wines are organic. Producing with a heart for nature and a passion for wine. That's what we love!

Austrian White Wines

Austria is best known for its white wines. Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) are particularly popular with wine lovers worldwide. Gruner Veltliner is particularly well-known. These white wines are characterized by a vibrant character. Gruner Veltliner is fresh, invigorating, and incredibly thirst-quenching. Drink this white gem as young as possible, so the acidity is still pleasantly fresh. Austria also produces some red wine. This share used to be low but has seen a huge increase in recent years, partly due to the national pride of Zweigelt. This exceptional wine ranges from lush, fruity wines to black, oak-aged powerhouses. Enormously diverse, but always enjoyable!

The history of Austrian wine growing

The history of winemaking in Austria is as diverse as the landscape of this Alpine country. Driving along a narrow mountain road or strolling through a picturesque Austrian village, you don't immediately think of one of the world's most modern wine countries. All the more reason to be surprised by this winter sports destination. Because Austrian wine is hot! They've put the turbulent times behind them thanks to strict wine regulations. Because of this, we can honestly say that every single bottle of Austrian wine is a true success story for quality. Don't believe us? Prepare to be amazed and crack open an Austrian. Whether in red, white, rosé, sweet wines, or sparkling wines, they're always a hit. We've become fans of Austria, and we're sure you will be too after a sip of Gruner Veltliner or Zweigelt! Cheers!
