The soil is rich in iron and slate, giving the Riesling grape its unique complexity. Markus Molitor also demonstrates what else they can do with Riesling. The Urziger Würzgarten vineyard is situated on a slope. However, the grapes for Markus Molitor's Riesling Urziger Würzgarten Spatlese come only from the lower vines. These yield the most aromatic grapes, resulting in a soft, sweet wine. This appellation is called Fruchsuss.
