Aaldering Cape Blend Red

This Florence series from Aaldering is a welcome addition to our range. It's Fons Aaldering's entry-level wine. Well, we shouldn't really call it entry-level wine, because this is such a joy to drink. A true Bordeaux blend based on Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. So, everything Aaldering has to offer is packed into this beautiful bottle of red wine, and it's named after Fons Aaldering's granddaughter. Marianne & Fons Aaldering's only grandchild is Florence. A particularly beautiful name, with the Latin name Florentius or the feminine form Florentia, which also means "prosperous" and "blossoming."

For this Cape Red, Fons uses a variety of grape varieties to give the wine its depth and richness. Aaldering's now-old vineyards are located in the heart of the Stellenbosch region. Thanks to the winemaker and his team's hard work, the vineyard has become one of the finest in South Africa. The climate is perfect: abundant sunshine, cooler nights, and a rich soil structure ensure a superb harvest. All the red grape varieties for this Florence by Aaldering Cape Blend are harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small crates.

The scent and taste of the Cape Blend

Each grape variety contributes to this beautiful Cape Blend from Aaldering. The Shiraz makes it a bit more contemporary and fuller in aroma and flavor. On the nose, we noted impressions of cassis fruit, blackcurrant, and a hint of vanilla, cedarwood, and eucalyptus. The palate of this red Florence is elegant, ripe, and full-bodied! Beautiful nuances of blackberry, cherry, and blueberry complemented by spices like pepper, bay leaf, and vanilla. The finish is a true Aaldering, full and robust with good, soft tannins!
