Immerse yourself in the refined world of Alvi's Drift Sauvignon Blanc, a wine originating from the picturesque vineyards nestled on the rolling slopes along the banks of the majestic Breede River. This region, blessed with rich alluvial soil, provides the ideal breeding ground for the Sauvignon Blanc grape to flourish. Each grape cluster, carefully hand-picked in the cool early morning hours, tells a story of dedication and passion. This meticulous selection ensures that only the most vibrant and fresh grapes make their way to the winery. Once there, they are lovingly destemmed and delicately crushed, after which they continue their journey to stainless steel tanks for careful fermentation. But the story doesn't end there; the wine is then nurtured for four months on its fine lees, which are regularly stirred, giving it its characteristic complexity. Upon opening a bottle of Alvi's Drift Sauvignon Blanc, you'll be greeted with enticing aromas of passion fruit, complemented by subtle hints of asparagus. A sip reveals a harmonious interplay of full-bodied and balanced flavors, complemented by refreshing notes that tantalize the senses. Whether enjoyed as an aperitif or with a seafood platter, this wine promises an unforgettable experience.

The Heritage of Alvi's Drift Winery

The name "Alvi's Drift" is more than just a brand; it's a tribute to a rich family history. Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe, affectionately known as Alvi, was the pioneer who laid the foundations for this prestigious winery in Worcester, a picturesque region just a two-hour drive from Cape Town, in 1928. The drift (bridge) he built over the Breede River, intended to connect his expansive estate, quickly became a local landmark and was named "Alvi's Drift." Today, under the watchful eye of the third generation of Alvi, the winery has expanded to an impressive 420 hectares of vineyards, growing 19 different grape varieties. But wine is only part of their story. With a bustling farm home to thousands of cows, chickens, and lush orchards, the family remains true to their agricultural roots. Alvi and his dedicated team of winemakers have built a reputation for producing wines that not only capture the essence of their terroir but have also achieved international recognition. Every glass of Alvi's Drift is a toast to tradition, quality, and the timeless beauty of the Breede River Valley.
