This is the most famous wine from Dutch soil, and grows up in Maastricht on the Louwberg. With its striking orange label, it couldn't be more Dutch. The wine has also been served in the business class of a well-known airline for years, and that doesn't happen by chance, says Winemaker Mathieu Hulst. This Cuvee XII shows in one bottle what Dutch winegrowing has to offer, because it is made with forty percent Muller Thurgau, thirty percent Auxerrois and the rest with Pinot Gris. Each year the ratio can differ slightly to get the same taste impressions. But that is Mathieu Hulst's trade, and he can make top wines from Maastricht like no other.
The great wine from Apostelhoeve
This white wine Cuvee XII has been produced by Apostelhoeve since 2002 and is their largest project. A wine that distinguishes itself and has an incomparable taste. The grapes come from the oldest vines of Apostelhoeve that grow beautifully on the Louwberg. There, the grapes get many hours of sunshine, coolness from the wind that blows over the mountain and the subsoil is unique. Mathieu is most proud of the latter. With a lot of limestone, gravel and marl, the soil gives the vines the unique terroir. We can taste that in this Cuvee XII.
What does the Apostelhoeve Cuvee XII taste like?
The nose is ripe and rounded with aromas of apricots, ripe figs, and a hint of pear. We also noted hints of light spice and a touch of grapefruit at the back of the nose. The palate has a lovely spiciness and lovely fruity acidity with a tropical note. A truly high-quality piece of craftsmanship, with flavor impressions of rich apricots, a touch of lime, and floral notes. Finally, a pleasant, smooth finish.
What do we eat at an Apostelhoeve Cuvee XII
A special wine, because that is what this white Cuvée XII is, calls for special dishes. This wine from De Apostelhoeve tastes delicious with a risotto, pasta dishes, light meat such as veal and of course with asparagus salad. But this wine also goes perfectly with fish dishes or crayfish!
