This latest wine from Librandi is a welcome addition to our selection. Librandi is known for its quality wines, and they prove it again with this white wine. Librandi makes this wine from the Greco grape, creating a fruity and light white wine.
The beginning of the Librandi winery
What began as a place where only grapes were grown evolved into a private winery in the 1950s. The Librandi family then began bottling their own wines. Their goal was to establish a modern enterprise focused on raising the profile of wines from the Ciro region. Brothers Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi significantly modernized the company and winemaking process, while maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation. On a hilltop, the Librandis built a modern winery with respect for the region and its traditions. Ultimately, the winery has become a highly renowned winery, producing quality wines that are internationally renowned.
DOC Melissa
The DOC Melissa has emerged in recent years as Calabria's second most important wine region, after Ciro. Melissa is located directly south of Ciro, also on the Ionian Sea coast. The majority of the production, namely ninety percent, is red. The white version is therefore quite rare here. This wine has been given the name Asylia, which was formerly the name for the town of Melissa and meant "asylum," a hospitable and safe place for travelers. In tribute, the winery named the wine after it. The grapes are planted in beautiful, poor soils of limestone and clay. After the harvest in September, it undergoes fermentation in stainless steel at a low temperature. Finally, the wine is aged for a few months in the bottle before being released.
