Bacalhoa is the epitome of Portuguese wine. For centuries, this Southern European country was primarily known for its fortified wines: Port! However, the country has so much more to offer. Thanks in part to the establishment of Bacalhoa, which encompasses no fewer than 11 wineries, Portuguese wines gained momentum. For a long time, Bacalhoa wines were the domain of local grape varieties, a resource Portugal is incredibly rich in. However, Bacalhoa is a highly innovative winery and today also gives considerable space to international all-rounders. For this wine, they chose Chardonnay, a favorite among wine drinkers worldwide.

The wines of Bacalhoa

Since Portugal joined the European Union, Portuguese wine has seen rapid growth, largely due to the availability of necessary agricultural subsidies from Brussels. Bacalhoa, a winery based on the Setúbal Peninsula, has benefited from this. Jose Berardo merged the finest wineries into one, which proved to be a wise move. As a result, Bacalhoa now has vineyards at its disposal throughout Portugal. However, the winery on the Setúbal Peninsula remains highly valued. The Chardonnay grape is also grown here, which, thanks to the influences of the Atlantic Ocean, develops a particularly full and complex character.

Order Bacalhoa Chardonnay wine

As much as we love Portugal's indigenous grapes, we'll never turn down a good glass of Chardonnay. That's why our wine experts were thrilled when the Bacalhoa Chardonnay was poured. Authenticity blended with modern style; that's quite something. The juice has been aged for five months in new French oak, and we smell that immediately upon opening the bottle. Bacalhoa Chardonnay has generous hints of pineapple, fresh peach, and a touch of vanilla. A fine glass of Chardonnay that's practically indistinguishable from the classic oak-aged Chardonnay wines of France.
